whale research and conservation and education projects to volunteer in ecuador

Description :-

The Foundation's main focus is education while its secondary focus is research. In third world countries such as Ecuador, the locals rely upon their land for subsistence. In Puerto Lopez the economy is roughly 80% reliant upon fishing to support local families. But, this heavy reliance has taken a toll on the fishing supply. Over fishing has caused local fisherman to deplete natural resources, thus they fish for sharks, manta rays and other species not normally fished. This is causing a change in not only the economy but also that of the oceanic ecosystem.

The Foundation hopes to stem this practice by educating the young students. Education that consists of putting forth an appreciation for the environment and ecosystem in hopes that as these students beco me adults, they will realize the detriment over fishing has caused.

But mere appreciation of the environment will not stem the tide. A alternative economy is needed, thus the education of the community in low impact tourism is one of the Foundation's goals. By providing English language classes to the local community, it is hopeful that the community will begin to develop more of a reliance upon ecotourism associated the natural environment of this region.

Sharks caught for the fins, the remainder is used for cat food. Although there are laws preventing sharks being caught and manta rays, this practice still occurs.
